Cellulite: when to resort to treatments?

La cellulitis is the number one enemy of yours legs. OnlyBelleza helps you understand more by interviewing Maurizio Otti, doctor plastic surgeon of the Basoccu medical practice in Rome. What treatments exist to destroy cellulite? How to choose them? Do they have contraindications?

What is cellulite?

La cellulitis it is an edematous-fibro-sclerotic panniculopathy (PEFS), that is an alteration of the subcutaneous tissue rich in adipose cells. Specifically, we find a condition whereby in the spaces between these cells they accumulate liquid which due to an alteration of the venous and lymphatic circulation cannot be eliminated. This is how the classic picture of cellulite is configured, which can therefore be classified into three stages:

First stage: edematous cellulite

Edematous cellulite is characterized by an initial stasis of fluids in specific areas of the body, such as ankles, thighs and arms. There is a feeling of swelling and heaviness especially in the legs, but the tissues are still soft, even if it is already possible to appreciate signs of edema with acupressure maneuvers.

Second stage: fibrous cellulite

At this stage, the connective tissue of the hypodermis increases. The tissues are harder to the touch and the characteristic “orange peel” appearance appears, as well as nodular areas, due to the formation of fibrous shoots due to poor oxygenation of the tissues. The skin may redden and there is a significant exhaustion of the limbs. Diffuse capillaries also often appear, a further sign of impaired circulation

Third stage: sclerotic cellulite

the skin tissue is hard, with an irregular profile, due to the presence of macronodules that are painful to the touch.

Rules to look for to combat cellulite

There are certainly tips that can be given to all women for the prevention of cellulite or that can, especially in the XNUMXst stage, reverse the trend. Fundamental is an adequate intake of water throughout the day, accompanied by a low sodium diet. However, proper nutrition combined with moderate physical activity is fundamental.

What aesthetic treatments to do to improve cellulite

Among the traditional aesthetic medicine treatments, mesotherapy still plays a fundamental role today, using lipolytic drugs and draining drugs from time to time.

In the first case, the adipose accumulations are removed, in the second case the venous and lymphatic circulation is stimulated. Instead, more innovative treatments, such as carboxytherapy or others, aim to restore a correct local microcirculation able to dispose of the stasis of excess fluids and improve tissue fibrosis.

How long does it take to see the results of an anti-cellulite treatment?

The results can be seen already after the first treatments, even if surely the constancy accompanied by the respect of the recommended norms of life, is fundamental for the achievement and maintenance of the results.

How to find the right treatment for your case

Women today certainly have a clear idea of the goal they want to achieve in terms of results. But they are often confused by the amount of information they are subjected to. The fundamental role of the doctor is not only to solve their problem, but to direct them on the most correct path.

In fact, there is no standard treatment protocol, but each must be considered in its own right and therefore a protocol must be proposed as personalized as possible.
